09′ Calvary Summer Reading Program

2009 has been a year of a lot of firsts for Calvary Lutheran High School.  We are having our first year with four grades, our first graduation, and our first National Honor Society inductees.  These are only a few of the firsts happening this year.

One exciting new first is our Summer Reading Program.  Reading can be a life-long fun habit, and we are enthusiastic about sharing all the fun we, as staff, have had reading.  Like most things in life, we like to know that we are not alone in our endeavors.  The Summer Reading Program is put together to create a community of readers.  Students as well as staff will be reading this summer and sharing their books when school starts again in the fall.  It is very important to us that students choose and read a book that they will enjoy.

The reading list compiled was chosen by many people including students in an effort to show that a book can vary as much as the people who write them; choose a book you will have fun with.  There will be two grading components attached to the Summer Reading Program.  (1) A  Book Talk has been scheduled for the fall where students will have an opportunity to share what they enjoyed most about reading.  This has replaced the traditional written test that most schools require after a summer vacation.  (2) Students will have the chance to put their creative powers to work and make a project based off the book.

Thanks for your cooperation and support of Calvary’s new Summer Reading Program!
