Host for International Students

Posted on April 30, 2008 @ 11:11 am - Filed under: Calvary News

Calvary Lutheran High School would like to open its doors to international students for the upcoming school year.  The only way this can happen is if we have host families willing to house the students during the school year.  If you are interested, or know of someone who may be interested, please contact Mr. Engelbrecht at Calvary Lutheran High School, 681-5491.

Purchasing Land for Permanent Location

Posted on @ 11:10 am - Filed under: Calvary News

A history-making day is quickly approaching!  On June 2, 2008, Calvary will have the opportunity to secure land for its permanent site.  Following the land purchase, site development and construction of our initial facility will begin.  The goal is to begin the 2009-10 school year in the new facility.  To meet this goal, $300,000 is currently needed to complete the land purchase.  Your financial support is needed now!

The schematic design is completed and has been shared at the Open House/Information Meetings.  The following are the deadlines and the costs affiliated with each of the stages through August, 2008:

  • Site development $40,000
  • Site grading and development (June-August) - $250,000
  • Site Utilities (August) - $50,000.

As you can see, $340,000 is needed above the land purchase to cover the work that will be happening until the end August.

Please search your heart and prayerfully consider making a donation to assist in buying the land and these first stages of the building.  God loves a cheerful giver!

  • Friday, May 16, at 9:00 am
  • Monday, May 19, at 9:00 am
  • Monday, May 19, at 6:30 pm

Our prayer is that you will take this opportunity to hear our story and get excited about Calvary’s growing ministry.  Please continue to pray for Calvary as we near the completion of this school year that has been richly blessed with God’s gracious gifts.

30 Days Until Permanent Land Purchase

Posted on @ 10:44 am - Filed under: Calvary News

Only 30 short days remain until Calvary’s land purchase will be finalized.  Are you wondering where are we at in this process and the steps that are planned after the purchase?  Read on!

To date, the following goals have been accomplished:  1) Opening Calvary’s doors with a quality curriculum and dedicated faculty; 2) Assembling a highly talented, experienced, and committed Building Committee to lead the process; 3) Identification of a permanent location; 4) A conceptual plan for the building and the parcel of land (the plan is below); 5) A timeline for completing Phase I (completion of Phase I will allow classes to begin in August, 2009.)  These goals have been the stepping stones to fulfilling the vision of Calvary’s permanent facility.

One major goal is to acquire the necessary funds to buy the land outright.  The initial site development is well underway, but funds are necessary to move ahead to physically develop the site.  According to the Building Committee, if the funds are available, the dirt work can begin immediately after the land is purchased.

It’s been said more than once, “Financial support for Calvary’s permanent location is within the area churches and the Jefferson City community,” and “When people see the plans, and know the building timeline, the financial support will happen.”  Calvary is at a very pivotal point in its history.  It’s in God’s hands and the hearts of His people.  Please search your heart and give a gift that will provide a facility suited to assist in spreading God’s word to area high school students and families.

As we are told in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.”  A commitment has been made to build a permanent facility, and your prayers and financial assistance are requested.  Please pray for Calvary that its mission and ministry will grow to God’s glory, and that His Kingdom will continue to increase.

4th Annual Calvary Lutheran High Golf Tournament

Posted on February 28, 2008 @ 8:40 am - Filed under: Calvary News

Dear Friends,

Calvary 2008 Golf Tournament FlyerCalvary Lutheran High School will complete its third year of operation in May and is looking forward to adding the twelfth grade this fall. God has graciously blessed Calvary with student and families who hunger for Christian education.

It is anticipated that Calvary will enroll its largest freshman class this fall! This is wonderful news, but due to this increase there will be more families requesting financial assistance. Last fall, 40% of our student body members qualified for financial aid, of which we were only able to meet 65% of the total need. This Golf tournament is our sole source of student financial assistance. Your participation in this golf tournament assures a quality education opportunity is available to all young people in the Jefferson City area.

This year’s tournament is planned to be better with drawings & more fun giveaways. The tournament will be held Friday afternoon, June 20th, 2008 at the Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton with a four-person scramble format to start at 1:00 pm. We are asking for your support in two ways: we invite you to play, and you may contribute as a golf tournament sponsor.

Available Sponsorships are: $500 - ACE $250 - EAGLE $125 - BIRDIE

Sponsors may enter a four-person team for a discount. Your sponsorship with a team are:

ACE w/team - $750.00, EAGLE w/team - $550.00, BIRDIE w/team - $475.00

This year lunch will be provided prior to the 1:00 tee time in addition to the evening meal for each golfer. Families of the golfers may join the evening meal by paying $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12 years, no charge for children 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance when you submit your registration.

In the near future someone from our golf committee will be contacting you to ask your help in sponsoring our tournament. Please recognize that your contribution will benefit future students at Jefferson City’s newest parochial high school. We realize the number of golf tournament fund-raisers available, which are all worthy causes; but we believe your contribution to our efforts will impact our community’s educational system for years to come.

Sincerely,

The Tournament Committee

Trivia Night at Calvary

Posted on January 29, 2008 @ 2:19 pm - Filed under: Calvary News

Trivia Night for Calvary.

Do you know how to play Trivia? Because I didn’t have a clue until last Saturday night, I volunteered to help with Calvary Lutheran High School’s Trivia Night. This gave me the opportunity to meet people as they registered and to mill around the room during the games, listening to comments about some of the questions and what answer they had given. I had a license to be nosey. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. We had 19 tables of 8 players and some scrumptous snack food. Gretchen Wehmeyer was the chairperson for this event. Gretchen did a wonderful job.

Josh Marriott Attends National Honor Choir

Posted on November 7, 2007 @ 7:38 am - Filed under: Calvary News

You could hear the excitement in Sophomore Joshua Marriott’s voice when he stated “Attending the National Honor Choir was a great experience!”  The event was held November 2-3, 2007, at Concordia University, in Seward, Nebraska.

Joshua was one of approximately 50-60 high school student participants selected from across the United States. Friday afternoon/evening, the honor choir practiced from 2:00 to 6:00 and 7:00 to 9:00.  Following the practice, the participants were treated to an evening of entertainment, of which Josh was “in the act!”

Saturday’s performance included the National Honor Choir, which performed five vocal selections, Concordia University’s A Cappella Choir, four bands, and two soloists.  Joshua’s favorite part of this experience was the performance itself. Josh encouraged all of Calvary’s choir members to try out for next year’s Honor Choir.  He will be eligible for next year’s choir and would like more of the choir members to enjoy this exciting opportunity.

Josh was very appreciative of Mrs. Ahlers encouragement and help in preparing him for this experience.  Josh stated “I made new friends and we have promised to keep in touch.”
