Special Events here at Calvary

Here at Calvary Lutheran High School we get a chance to listen to important people who do really significant and cool things. These people teach us many different things ranging from what they do, what they would like us to do and what they would like to teach us. Calvary also has special events that take place here that show how devoted we are to our faith and our community.

Drunk Driving Officer

In October we had a police officer come in and teach us about the dangers of drunk driving and driving without a seat belt. He delivered to us a powerpoint presentation that showed us graphic pictures of car wrecks and the afterworks of drunk driving. He also told us about the dangers of the use alcohol and other illegal substances, because of our age and the effects. All the students benefited from this experience and enjoyed playing with the “drunk guy goggles.”

Sgt Major Schulte - Afganhistan

Sgt. Major Schulte came to us and shared what he did when he was over in Afghanistan. He showed us lots of pictures of his camp and some of the work he did, he even had a short video clip of how bad the roads were. He also brought in props and clothing for the students to try on. As we saw, Afghanistan clothing used a very famous saying “one size that fits all”.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is a major ingredient in our body witch helps mothers who are pregnant produce a healthy baby with out defects. This also helps us grow and function properly in everyday life. Students at Calvery Lutheran High School had a chance to listen to a guest speaker come in from Lincoln University. The student talked and showed us the dangers of going with out folic acid. The guest speaker gave us an idea about what foods contained that the acid and why they were safe to use on a daily bases. She also told us the importance of using a daily vitamin. She also gave us a powerpoint presentation showing birth defects and some good old fashioned orange juice.

March of Dimes

During March, the students at Calvary celebrated the March of Dimes. Students were given a pin with the logo on it to show that they supported the organization. The students wore the "March of dimes" T-shirt and took a picture out in front of the school that appeared in the newspaper. During the week there were several of other little activates showing how much we really appreciate the people who save premature babies. During that week Dr. Jungmeyer (Mr. Jungmeyer's brother) came in and talked about how he had polio and how it affected his life and how it could affect ours. At the end of the week students who wore there little pin all week showing that they supported March of Dimes won a free water bottle.

Speak Hard Youth Event

Calvary students went to the Truman building to learn about drugs, pure pressure, what-to-do’s, and much more. They got to listen to a guest speaker named Scott Ginsberg (The Name-Tag Guy) who had a lot of useful information on how to be approachable. After the guest speaker was done he was giving out autographs and some of the students got to meet and greet him. Afterwards the scholars and other people went to many workshops throughout the day. At the meetings they learned about how harmful drugs could be to your system, how teen suicides were bad, and they also gave us lunch. At lunch we got to talk to professionals who deal with drugs or other types of related problem every day. When the work shops were over the Calvary students went to a little rewards ceremony in the capital, and where Kelsey got an award. Afterwards the Calvary students had the chance to go around the capital building and talk to a representative from their home district.

Spirit Week

Sprit Week was about students showing that they really cared out the school’s sports activities. To show their sprit students dressed up in school colors. At the end of each day there was activity for the students. In assigned teams, they competed for points. At the end of the week the team with the most points won a special prize. Some of the activities included; Movie Day (Remember the Titans), marshmallow castles, Hula-hoop challenge, Guess that 70’s song, baseball bat relay, and much more. This is a week where the students got to relax a little and have lots of fun. This is the most looked forward to event all year long.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week was about staying drug free. During the whole week student dressed up in red and other colors showing that they were drug free. During the whole week guest speakers came in talked to them about the dangers of using alcohol and illegal drugs and to show how important it is being drug free. The students were challenged to where a red ribbon all week. The students that were able to keep the ribbon all week won a prize and some candy. There were also different activities though out the week. Like a balloon lift-off, bingo, paper-mâché, an epic blob game and much more.
