Calvary Lutheran Varsity Volleyball

The girls volleyball season turned out to be a great success. The team improved from last season by hard work and dedication. They had many wins, and through their their few losses improved their skills. Their success was marked by the second place victory in districts at the end of the season.

Coach Deven McDonald

2008-2009 was Coach McDonald's third season leading Calvary's volleyball team and the first season of a varsity program. Coach McDonald devoted much of his time to helping every one of the girls improve their skills. As a coach, he wanted nothing more than success for his team. He has led his girls to many wins and a district championship. He has also led the Calvary Volleyball program to new heights and pointed it where its needs to go.

The Game

Volleyball is a team game, which means it takes more than just one person to create a competitive, well played game. Calvary's Lady Lions clearly demonstrated that they possessed the athleticism and willpower necessary to dominate over their opponents. In addition to athleticism, communication is a key part to any successful volleyball team. Throughout the season the girls learned to read off of each other better. It is very impressive and rare when a small school, such as Calvary, shows that they have the stuff to throw themselves up with the leaders right off the bat. That's exactly what our girls volleyball team did.

Player Memories

Brianna says, "Playing the game itself was the best part about the season, as well as getting second place in districts." They all took joy in the game itself. Calvary volleyball girls will remember this season for a very long time. For this is the season where Calvary finally made its mark. Every returning girl is extremely hyped up for next season.
